13. Clyde May's Alabama Whiskey: I laid my guts on the line every time I drank the stuff. There ain't a damn thing you can do about it but take another swig and lay'em on the line again, and again, and again.

14. Troy: Coach Blakeney would win a lot more games if he would just quit tape recording his coaches meetings. You can't have copies of that stuff in the hands of the opposing team and expect to win.

15. World Turkey Expo: I never miss a chance to stare man's mortal enemy in the eye. Gives me goose bumps just talking about it. Damn turkeys!

16. Nooses: I always have a noose hanging up at practice. Reminds the players what will happen to them if they loose to Alabama.

17. Tie Dye Shirts: I invented them. Went out drinking one time with Corky at Lake Martin. Woke up the next morning and had a little bit of everything on my shirt from the night before. It was so damn colorful I wore the thing to Church on Sunday.

18. Sammy the Cat: I love cats. Especially cats with tiger stripes. I think every cat should have its own PO Box. Worst thing a man can do to a cat is deny it the right to mail service.

19. Deliverance: Most romantic movie I've ever seen. You can't deny the feeling you get when you're sensually touched by another man.

The Legends Poll is a College Football Poll made up of ~~12 angry men who gather in an isolated room to deliberate the guilt or innocence of a defendant based on reasonable doubt~~ 17 grumpy old retired football coaches who evaluate the Top 25 teams during the College Football season.

In the interest of gerontology (the study of "the moth-eaten"), we have obtained the ballot of former ASU Head Coach Frank Kush. We hope his antiquated insight on the college game can shed some light on to what occurs in the senile mind of a Legends Poll voter.

1. Florida. Any QB thats had a concussion gets my vote. Personally I never played well unless I had at least two by the 2nd quarter.

2. Texas. I love a campus where you can walk around without any pants on. Have to let your boys take a breath of fresh air every once and awhile.

3. I never sent one player to the NFL that could read or write. I'm glad Coach Saban is carrying on this tradition.

4.Vote unintelligible due to oatmeal stain.

5. Cincinnati. I once put a Bearcat at tailback. No team in the nation could stop that son of a bitch.

6. Pants without belt loops. I've never worn a belt in my life and no sausage jockey Athletic Director is going to make me start wearing one now.

7. New Mexico. I've always been a fan of Coaches punching people, whether it be assistants, players, the traveling secretary. Nothing motivates a team more then a good jab to the chin.

8. Bill Frieder. You have to be one hell of a Coach to draw up a play during a timeout that guarantees you'll win $5,000 grand on the under.

9. Hardin-Simmons. They won the Boarder Confrence in '58. Toughest bastards I ever coached against.

10. Polish Pierogies. Best day off my life was when I found a Pierogie behind the cushion of my couch. I suspect it was left over from the prior years Pulaski Day celebration.

11. Man O'War. Now that was a race horse endowed with the proper appendage for a long & satisfying stud career.

12. Kansas. That Coach of theirs reminds me of William Conrad. Greatest actor that ever lived. I own every episode of Jake and the Fatman on cassette tape. I love the sound of that plump mans voice.

13. Hamilton Tiger-Cats. I built that team into a dynasty. I would have won 10 Grey Cups in a row if it wasn't for that damn canadian whiskey. Canadian Club Dry with a touch of lima bean zest. Really gets the wife in the mood.

14. Texas Tech. Anyone that beats Nebraska is ok in my book. I beat Nebraska in the '75 Fiesta Bowl. Went undefeated that year. Still waiting for that National Championship ring in the mail.

15. Typewriters. You won't find a computer on my desk! What's the point of email when I can walk over to your office and cuss you out in person.

16. BYU. Never laid eyes on a Mormon bird that i didn't want to show my jaja to.

17. The Milkman. My Father delivered milk for 42 years. At least that was the rumor my Mother tried to dispel.

18. Denver Broncos. Thank God they agreed to take that blubbering idiot John Elway off my hands. Not in a hundred years would a bucktoothed kid have ever made it in the NFL.

19. Dinner at 2pm. I always eat 4 hours before I turn in for the night. Once I had dinner at 5:00 because I was being honored at some banquet. Couldn't take a crap for two weeks.

20. Sheep Dip. Developed a taste for the stuff on my parents farm. If you want to guarantee your kicker makes it through the uprights, force a little bit of it down his throat before he takes the field. His ass cheeks will pucker up so tight, he won't be able to kick it any other way then straight.

21-25. Once I start something I always see it through. Unless an episode of Andy Griffith comes on. How do you expect me to rank teams when I'm dreaming of Helen Crump lathering my body in cottage cheese.

I to find myself waiting patiently on Sunday mornings for as you say "the white mans damn college football polls to come out." I tell ya, there ain't nothing more relaxing then lounging in the crib, reading them polls while munching on a snack from the Burrito Man. My personal motto is "The Warden can take your yard time away, but he can never take a Man's football polls." Remember that Soda.

The AP Poll, which I do enjoy, all though it has no bearing on the BCS Standings, usually comes out at 1:20pm ET. Bout 10:20am here on the Left Coast. The Coaches' Poll comes out at about the same time save 5 minutes. I don't know when the Harris Poll comes out but I'll get back at-cha next time I see you on shit watch. I also got some release times for BCS Standings that I'll send your way via kite.

Muhammad "The Champ" Ali vs Lamar "The Candy Man" Odom

Against the advice of many, Muhammad Ali has decided to come out of retirement for one last fight. In a statement issued today by Ali's representatives, "The Champ has publicly declared a challenge to NBA Basketball Player Lamar Odom of the Los Angeles Lakers and his sweet tooth." Don King Productions has dubbed it "The Jelly Bean Joust", and has set a tentative date for a July 12 match at the LA Forum.

Ali told reporters that Mr. Odom's love of candy is setting a bad example for our generation of youth. Howard Cosell asked The Champ, "Muhammad.................haven't we gone through this before. You come out of retirement to fight Larry Holmes and then you fight Trevor Berbick. How is this going to be any different."

The Champ responded by saying "Howard, I said I was the greatest, not the smartest." I'm gonna fight for the children, not for me," Ali pronounced. Ali went on to tell reporters that his main motivation for coming out of retirement is to promote dental hygiene.

W.H. Kirkum of The Wichita Breeze asked Ali, "Champ what would you like to say to the children of the world."

Ali declared, "I'd like to tell children of the world, mainly right here where they speak and understand English in America. Tell them to quit eating so much candy. I have three rotten teeth and their bad. I had to have one of them pulled. I can't chew my food like I should. Eat natural food's because we must whoop Mr. tooth decay. I got one right herr and one right herr," he said as he pointed to his infected teeth.

On his prospects of winning the fight against Lamar Odom, Ali told Melvin Rockfeld of the Montgomery County Sentinel, "I'll beat him so bad he'll need a shoehorn to put his hat on."

In response to Ali's challenge, Lamar Odom told members of the Los Angeles media, "I guess I'm going to have to eat candy for breakfast in order to fight well." Odom then directed his assistant Anthony McNair to begin preparations for the boxing match. Player Dies in Stabbing at Basketball Game

A 19-year-old basketball player from Queens was fatally stabbed with a broken-off table leg today after a fight broke out during a basketball tournament, the police said. The player, Lloyd Newton, was stabbed in the back with a leg from the scorer's table at the championship game of a Y.M.C.A.-sponsored tournament at the Niagara Falls Boys and Girls Club, the police in Niagara Falls said.

"An argument ensued about the score," Capt. Louis Curcione said, adding that one of the teams "thought they were getting gypped."

"A fight broke out between the players and about 40 fans in the stands," he said. "In the course of the fight, one person was stabbed in the back."

Mr. Newton was taken to the Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Brian C. Young, 16, of Niagara Falls, has been charged with second-degree murder. He was being held at the Niagara Falls jail pending his arraignment in city court today.

Jacque Robinson in the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame Class of 2010?

"The Word On The Pound" is making a push for Jacque Robinson, former tailback at Washington from 1981-84, to be inducted into the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame Class of 2010. Robinson amassed 2,300 career yards to rank eighth in the all-time Huskies record books. He is also the only player to ever win MVP honors in both the Rose Bowl (1982) and Orange Bowl (1985).

Usually this information isn't released by the Rose Bowl until early December, but we have a good feeling about his chances this year. The Rose Bowl Hall of Fame was established to honor those who embody the best of the passion, honor, strength and tradition associated with The Granddaddy of Them All. Now when I think of passion, honor, strength and tradition, the first thing that comes to mind is the TV show Mr. Belvedere. The second thing that comes to mind is Jacque Robinson.

Just looking at Jacque's picture, we can see the greatness of a past champion. A man who looks like he could still throw on the old shoulder pads and helmet once again. The scent of maryjane precedes him, while his historic legacy follows. Today we salute you Mr. Robinson and we hope that the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame selection committee sees the same gentle and delicate person that we see when we look into your eyes.

Bol Kong, Lance Stephenson & John Wall Update

The mythical Bol Kong, our favorite Sudanese basketball player from Canada is supposedly going to play at Gonzaga next year. Some people say he is still waiting on his visa, others say he has already enrolled at Gonzaga. Some kind of announcement should be made in the next 3 weeks since the spring signing period ends May 20. As we have mentioned before, Kong led his College team to the National Championship and during exhibition play in the U.S. he dropped 23 points on Marquette, scored over 30 points on Boise State in a win, lost to Oklahoma and was held to 14 points, and scored 19 against Idaho.

Lance Stephenson initially listed Kansas, Maryland and St. John’s as his options, although Kansas now appears to be out of the running with the recent signing of Xavier Henry & brother C.J. Henry. Arizona and Memphis have recently reached out to Lance, but neither seem like an option. I doubt Lance likes Sean Miller's offense and Memphis is a whole nother story.

Everyone talks about how Josh Pastner was such a great recruiter at Arizona. But then Josh goes to Memphis and the craziness begins. I will try to sum up the events in a few sentences. Grandpa dies, leaves the team to Josh in his will and Josh appoints himself the new Head Coach of the Tigers. Josh dedicates the season to his Grandfather, and vows to win the NCAA Championship. Will the proud, arrogant players of the team, be willing to take order's and tactic's from a 12 year old boy or will the players leave for the drat while the recruits jump ship. Sorry, that's actually the plot from the movie "Little Big League", and I say Lance goes to St. Johns.

Has John Wall received a qualifying test score yet? Wall has said that he is not sure if he has achieved a qualifying test score until his final grades come out and the end of the semester which should be next week. His test score will then be adjusted to his GPA using the NCAA sliding scale. Wall has a good GPA at Word of God Academy so this shouldn't be a problem.

Before the NBA Draft deadline passed, there were rumors that he would throw his name in the ring to see if the NBA would let him enter the Draft since he is 19. A player can enter the draft if he is at least 19 years old (Wall is), has not graduated from high school and at least one NBA season has elapsed since the graduation of the class with which the player would have graduated had he graduated from high school.

Last week Wall's list was down to N.C. State, Memphis, Miami, Kentucky, Kansas, Florida, Duke and Baylor. Baylor and Memphis are out and Miami is out after visiting there last week. Washington State University football boosters have recently led a loud campaign to oppose a measure that would divvy up King County taxes and potentially help pay for a Husky Stadium renovation.

Senate Bill 6116, sponsored by Seattle Democratic Sens. Ed Murray and Jeanne Kohl-Welles, would help pay for an expansion of KeyArena and projects at Safeco Field, as well as provide money for King County arts groups, youth sports, tourism promotion and other things -- possibly including Husky Stadium.

Wazzu boosters have articulated that they are against state tax dollars going towards college athletics infrastructure. This point of view can be expanded upon to say that Wazzu boosters are against any tax dollars being used for college athletics in general.

Cougar fans hate taxes, but they like apples.

Yesterday, State Senator Ed Murray drafted an amendment he says he'll propose to the state operating budget -- an amendment that would force the WSU boosters to live with the consequences of a no-public-money-for-stadiums philosophy.

The amendment reads:

"No state funds, tuition revenues, or student fees shall be used to pay for the operating expenses of intercollegiate athletic programs at any of the public research universities within the state. Any state funds or tuition revenues currently being used for this purpose shall be used for academic instruction."

That's targeted at WSU's athletic department, which, according to spokesman Bill Stevens, receives about $2 million a year from the university (or about 8 percent of the athletic department budget.)

It also could make trouble for Wazzu's Martin Stadium renovation project, which is being funded in part with student fees of $25 a semester for undergrads. WSU students voted to accept the fees in 2006 to help pay for the stadium.

Way to Go Billy! Terrific Hire. Here is the Seattle Times article by Bob Condotta that confirms the news. As I mentioned in a previous post, this hire has a lot of similarities to Lorenzo Romar getting his first job in 1996 at Pepperdine. Romar brought his great recruiting ability with him from UCLA and was able to take Pepperdine into the NIT in his 3rd year. Dollar is just as good at delivering duffel bags full of money and should immediately be able to add some local JC talent as well as some verbal commits from local High School kids for the 2010 class.

Bill Hogan's Big Decision and the Future of Seattle U Basketball:

As we travel deeper into the middle of the Chieftains search for a Head Basketball Coach, the biggest decision of Bill Hogan's tenure as Athletic Director looms on the corner of Madison & Broadway. Hogan served as Athletic Director at the University of San Francisco from 1991 to 2006. When Hogan came to USF, Jim Brovelli was the Head Men's Basketball Coach having his best season in 1993 with 19 wins. In 1994 he resigned and we assume that Hogan forced his hand.

Hogan's first major decision at USF came when he hired Philip Mathews, previously the Coach at Ventura College. Mathews was able to bring in a number of talented recruits as he battled Coach Davey of Santa Clara for Bay-Area supremacy. The Don's received their only NCAA Tournament birth of the last few decades under Mathews in 1998. However Mathews was never able to keep up with conference powerhouse Gonzaga and was subsequently fired by Hogan in 2004. Interestingly enough, Mathews name has been mentioned as a possible candidate for the Seattle U job because he and Hogan worked so well together at delivering mediocrity. It's great to know that a Coach that wasn't good enough for USF would be qualified for Seattle U. But maybe Mathews just ran into a streak of bad luck at the end of his tenure.

In 2004 Hogan replaced Mathews with Jessie Evans who had previously been the Head Coach at Louisiana-Lafayette and was a former Arizona assistant under Lute the Fruit. We all know how successful UA assistants have been over the years. Evan's guided USF to an NIT birth in 2005 and then was forced to resign in 2007 by current AD Debra Gor is a Mann. Evans of course sued USF over his firing.

So basically, USF was never very successful under Hogan's tenure and we are entrusting him to make a great decision for Seattle U. The Redhawks will never be the next Gonzaga. We can only hope they can build a program like St. Mary's under Randy Bennett or Portland State under Ken Bone were you get an NCAA birth every few years.

Che Dawson, Head Coach at Highline CC would be a Philip Mathews type of hire but I can't see him having as much success as Mathews. Seattle U can't afford the Jessie Evans type, the established Division 1 coach from a smaller school. Cameron Dollar is a popular choice and could be a lot like a young Lorenzo Romar at Pepperdine. Great recruiter, but terrible game coach. But hey, maybe Dollar can learn to coach on the fly or hire a great assistant like Romar did with Ken Bone. Romar eventually learned how to coach, or at least learned how to delegate.

Eric Bridgeland currently at Whitman College would be my personal favorite. A Coach with local ties with a great offensive scheme. Ray Giacoletti would be another great hire but I doubt he would take the job. Quin Snyder might like to move back to his hometown if he is desperate enough for a job. Hogan is on the clock and lets just hope he unknowingly makes the greatest hire of his career. Then again, what the hell do I know, I'm Uncle Ned's cell mate.

P.S. from Uncle Ned:
As much as Doc loves to bash Hogan, let's remember the 6 other WCC schools that haven't exactly shown any consistency over the last 20 years. We all can't have access to the John Stockton slush fund. Also, maybe Hogan was pressured into firing Mathews by some senile donor that thought K.C. Jones and Bill Russell still played at War Memorial and thought the Warriors still played at the Cow Palace.

A few more Candidates for the Seattle U Job

Bill Hogan the Seattle U Athletic Director, dropped a few gems of info during his interview with Percy Allen from the Seattle Times. Hogan stated that he has received about 80 applications and inquiries into the Redhawks' Head Coach vacancy. Uncle Billy plans to put a list together of 15 names within the week, before he begins formal interviews.

The school is considering hiring an independent firm to conduct the search. My advice to Billy is don't hire Brothers Pump to conduct the search, they hire duds, AKA(Bill Bayno, Rodney Tention, Eddie Sutton.

Hogan said, "There's at least seven to eight really good strong candidates in that group that have already indicated interests." Ideally, Hogan would like to conclude the search before Wednesday, which is the start of the spring signing period.

Who are the 8 Strong Candidates? Let's add a few more names to our running list.

Jim Harrick- Surprisingly he hasn't been banned from coaching in college basketball yet. If you want to win an NIT Championship next year and an NCAA Championship in 2012, and then have the basketball program get the death penalty, he is your man. Harrick must preform sepeku if he gets caught cheating again.

Brad Holland- Former USD Head Coach and current UCSB Assistant. No northwest ties, but he is a decent coach. In his hay-day at USD, he was rumored to be up for the UCLA job.

Tommy Lloyd- Another Zag's Assistant, we might as well throw them all in the pot for good measure. Even though Tommy has no chance, he will be a Zag lifer.

Philip Mathews- Current Assistant at Nebraska. The San Jose Mercury reported he is a candidate for the job. He was the former Head Coach at USF from 97-04, before being fired by Hogan. Could you really hire somebody a second time after you have fired him unless yor last name is Steinbrenner.

Dick Davey- Santa Clara legend and current Stanford Assistant. Bay Area lifer and pretty much already retired but maybe Hogan has a WCC connection with him.

Brad Soderberg- Former SLU coach, has experience dealing with Jesuits.

Mike Dunlap- Pac 10 level coach, just got an Assistant job at Oregon.

Kevin O'Neal- Marquette, Jesuits, Toronto, William Gates, sucked at UA.

You are correct, most of these names are crap. I will trim my list down to 8 by next week.

Che Dawson favorite for Seattle U Job

One of the favorites for that job is thought to be Highline CC coach Che Dawson, who was a four-year letterman at Seattle U before entering coaching (he was also Erroll Knight's high school coach).

SEATTLE -- Bill Hogan wasn't planning on traveling to the Final Four this year. Seattle University's athletic director thought it best, in the current economy, to save his department a little money.

Then Hogan's basketball coach, Joe Callero, suddenly left for Cal Poly, and a last-second trip to the Final Four became necessary.
Hogan is in the early stages of his search for a new men's basketball coach, but already has hopes of getting the vacancy filled before April 15, when the next signing period for high school recruits begins. It's a crucial time.
"Our idea is to hire the right person eventually rather than just someone quickly, but if we could hire the right person quickly, April 15 is right around the corner," Hogan said Monday in a telephone interview from Detroit. "I don't think people understand how important that date is and how it can put you behind a bit."
Most of Hogan's conversations at the Final Four are informal, but he said more than 40 applications have been received for the position. The job is a draw for many coaches because of Seattle's current transition back to Division I, which includes future home games at a former NBA arena (KeyArena) and the hopes of landing eventually in a strong conference, potentially the West Coast Conference.
Hogan isn't confining his search to coaches with Division I experience but would like someone who can help land Seattle a strong conference affiliation, building on what Callero worked on for the last eight seasons. Northwest ties and knowledge of the regional basketball scene are also important.
The Redhawks' job opened up last week when Callero suddenly left for the central coast of California, leaving behind all his roots in the Seattle area. Callero was one of the driving forces behind moving Seattle from Division II back to Division I competition for the first time since 1981.
From a basketball perspective, the move was highly successful in its first year. The Redhawks went 21-8 last season, including 13-8 against Division I schools. Seattle played in the Great Alaska Shootout, renewed its rivalry with Washington and picked up wins over the likes of UC Irvine, Louisiana Tech and Eastern Washington.
But Hogan said conversations with Callero indicated the coach was ready to take on a new challenge after helping raise the Redhawks' profile. After playing a mixed schedule last season, Seattle will play all Division I schools in 2009-10.
"I've enjoyed him tremendously, he did all the heavy lifting when it was the most difficult. He's responsible for a lot of why we are where we are," Hogan said of Callero. "When we've had discussion there was always a sense where he likes that role where he goes into a program that needs a lot of help and he does it. And he looks for something else after that."

Former Redhawk Head Coach Joe Collero has skipped town for Cal Poly SLO. Hey Joe, we didn't want you to be our coach in 2012 (when we're officially a kick ass Division One Program) anyways. But thanks for running the show during this "transition period", AKA (fantasy fun time where games don't count, everyone drops acid and Muppet's play basketball against purple elephants).

It's time for A.D. Bill Hogan to make his first relevant hire for the department so this basketball program will start rolling. I want a guy who is worthy enough to coach games on Elgin Baylor Court next year at Key Arena.

After a 29-year absence, Seattle U. takes its first significant steps to becoming a full-fledged Division I athletic program this season. The basketball team plays a hybrid schedule filled with Division I and II opponents this season including a Jan. 1 date with Loyola Marymount — the same team against which it played its last game in Division I in 1980 — at the Key during the first year of a five-year reclassification period.

The Redhawks, formerly the Chieftans, played home games at KeyArena, which was formerly the Coliseum. The school drew 14,253 fans in 1967 for a game against Texas Western. This season, SU will tarp off the upper section of the 17,072-seat arena and seat 7,000 for the New Year's Day game.

Tre Simmons is playing ball in Israel for Maccabi Electra. His team includes Omri Casspi, Carlos Arroyo and Rodney White.

With 12 established players on the roster, Maccabi may have its deepest roster ever and coach Birenboim will have the choices to mix and matchup lineups to go big or small, attacking or defensive or anything in between. The creative coach has a knack for inspiring his players, but that may not be needed much as eight players are in their first or second Euroleague season and they will all be hungry for success. With the backing of the fiery sell-out crowds at Nokia Arena, there is every reason to see Maccabi back battling for another ticket to the Final Four.

Rivals.com is reporting that Shawn Kemp Jr., who had at one point been said to be considering Washington among several other schools, will stay close to home and attend Alabama. Here's the story.

Kemp, from Canton, Ga., said he chose Alabama because "they've wanted me for a long time now and I wanted to stay close to home. With them it's not too far and not too close and it's a great situation. That has really helped me make my decision.''

Kemp, the son of former Sonic Shawn Kemp, had said he was intrigued by the thought of playing in the same city where his father made his professional name. But Kemp visited Alabama over the weekend and said he liked the fact that the school is about a three-hour drive from his house. And according to Rivals.com, Kemp's interest in UW may not have been that strong at the end --- the web site lists 12 schools on Kemp's list of college choices, none of them the Huskies. Interestingly, Alabama is coached by Mark Gottfried, who UW coach Lorenzo Romar considers one of his best friends in the business since the days when they worked together as assistants at UCLA.

July 14th-20th

Nine teams have already booked their tickets for the Men's Olympic Basketball Tournament in Beijing, China, from 9th to 24th August 2008: Angola, Argentina, Australia, China, Iran, Lithuania, Russia, Spain and USA.

The remaining three men's berths for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games will be decided in the 12-team FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament amongst the following teams: Brazil, Cape Verde, Canada, Cameroon, Croatia, Germany, Greece, Korea, Lebanon, New Zealand, Puerto Rico and Slovenia.

Some of the biggest stars of the game will compete in Athens like Dirk Nowitzki AKA (Harry Knackawitz) from Germany, Leandro "The Brazilian Blur" Barbosa from Brazil, Theo "Greek Magic" Papaloukas from Greece, Carlos "The New Maestro" Arroyo from Puerto Rico and Jaka "Jale" Lakovic from Slovenia. And all of them know that it will be an incredible difficult task to gain one of the remaining three tickets to Beijing.

I remember when my Parents took my Sister and I to our first Sonics game at the Coliseum. Bernie Bickerstaff patrolled the sidelines as the Head Coach du jour. In 1992 my Dad took me to my first Sonics playoff game. Tickets were around $40 a piece which I thought was an awful lot of money at the time. Surprisingly, I successfully pleaded my case to my mother, probably telling her it was some kind of early birthday present. We sat about 5 rows from the ceiling as I watched the Sonics lose to the Jazz in the Western Conference Semifinals. I can still picture the red bearded Mark Eaton looking like a lumberjack out on the court.

I remember my Grandparents recounting their years as Sonics season ticket holders during the glory days of the 70's. Their stories always mentioned the names of "Downtown" Freddy Brown, Slick Watts and Jack Sikma. My Grandma described Coach Lenny Wilkens as such a snazzy dresser. My Grandma bought me an over sized Sonics shirt with the old school logo to wear to bed every time I spent the night at their house.

I remember going to an end of the year rec center basketball party and we were allowed to pick between a Michael Cage poster and a poster of Derrick Mckey and Olden Polynice standing between the Space Needle. I took the Mckey poster because he was one of my favorite players and I remember when he was traded away to the Pacers for Detlef Schrempf.

I remember when the Sonics took the Suns to the 7th game of the Western Conference Finals in 1993. I was stuck at a school function, but of course I had a radio by my side. I kept everyone up to date on the score and avoided those who didn't want to know because they were recording the game at home.

I remember when the Sonics moved to the Tacoma Dome for a season. I took the Victoria Clipper with my Grandpa and Dad to watch the Sonics take on the Lakers. Nate McMillan missed a three pointer at the buzzer that would have sent the game in to overtime.

I remember where I was in 1994 during Game 5 of the 1st round of the playoffs against the Denver Nuggets. It was opening day of boating season and we were on a houseboat on Portage Bay, celebrating when Go for Gin won the Kentucky Derby. I felt sick to my stomach after that loss and I can still picture Dikembe waving his dam finger in triumph.

I remember listening to Kevin Calabro and Marcus Johnson on my bedside radio as I struggled to stay awake for the final moments of a fourth quarter battle. I used to rehearse their one liners in my head. "Flying Chickens in a Barnyard", "Good Golly Miss Molly", "The Feel The Touch of Cotton", and "Get up for the Down Stroke."

I remember when a winter storm hit Seattle. Braving the elements, we walked down Queen Anne Hill, passing abandon Metro Buses that could go no further in the snow drifts. Key Arena was our destination. Our motivation was the rumor that Sonic tickets would be free because nobody could get to the game in the weather unless they walked. Although we ended up paying $15 for tickets, we joined the few hundred that had made the journey, sitting where ever we pleased.

I remember when I lined up 5 hours prior to tip off, hoping to get one of the cheap day of game tickets so I could see the return of Magic Johnson. I got in the building, and watched the old all-star lumber around the court from my seat on the second level. People cheered every time he checked into the game.

I remember being convinced by my Grandma to go to a movie titled "The Madness of King George" during the 1995 NBA Draft. I brought my radio to the movie hoping the Sonics would pick Lawrence Moten. They ended up taking Sherell Ford that year.

I remember the 1996 Finals versus Chicago. I went down to Key Arena before a game to buy a t-shirt from a street vendor set up in front of Tower Books. The shirt had cartoon caricatures of Shawn Kemp and Dennis Rodman on the front with the Finals Trophy sitting between them. The previous week I spent spring break at a business camp at Gonzaga. I remember turning on my radio during a group meeting. The Counselor (some nerd from Boeing) asked me why I had a radio with me. I told him the Sonics game was on, is was Game 3 of the NBA Finals. He replied, "Oh, the Sonics. Well, you can keep us up to date if you turn the volume down" he said in an unenthusiastic tone.

I remember when my Sister got me a 1979 World Champions Sonics T-shirt for Christmas. I also remember dragging my family to a Sonics game just so I could get a commemorative 1979 Championship snow globe. Of course we ate at Dick's before the game.

I remember in Grad school when our Professor, a former team president of the Sonics told us about the details of the Key Arena lease agreement between the team and the city. He said something big was going to happen in 5 or 6 years and the that team could possibly move.

I remember when Nate McMillan left the Sonics to take the head coaching job with the Trailblazers. I quit following the Sonics that day as closely as I had, in disgust, as the end seemed eminent. I will never quit being a Sonics fan.

Bol Kong Petition

It looks like some Gonzaga fans have started an online petition to get Bol Kong a U.S. visa. The refugee from Sudan and basketball star has lived in Canada for the last 11 years but retains his Sudanese citizenship. U.S. officials believe that Mr. Kong will plant plastic explosives in his sneakers during a one on one game with Jewish Jordan. The explosives will detonate after a dunk known as the Khartoum Slam is completed. Rumors also indicate that Bol may be related to "King Kong", the 24 foot terrorist that ravaged such cities as Tokyo and New York. 11 signatures so far, keep them coming.

Blazers agree to deal with Hornets for 27th pick

The Portland Trail Blazers have agreed to a deal with the New Orleans Hornets to acquire the 27th pick in Thursday's NBA draft for cash considerations, a Blazers source told ESPN.com.
The deal was agreed to verbally between the two teams on Tuesday night, according to the source. The teams have scheduled a trade call with the league in the morning to make the deal official.

Blazers GM Kevin Pritchard is at it again. One of the best GM's in the league, Pritchard is getting the Blazers ready for playoff contention. He is playing moneyball while everyone else is playing with their balls. It's unclear who the Blazers are eyeing at No. 27. One possibility is Croatian big man Ante Tomic, whom the Blazers have coveted for years.

If you don't have a TV in your prison cell or you plan on being in solitary the night of the Draft, here is the rundown of what will take place.

The Grizzlies and the PaperClips will make selections so bad that their fans will yearn for the days of Big Country Reeves & Bo Kimble. Robert Sarver's kid will tell his dad that the Sun's should draft the families pet poodle. Steve Kerr will comply. Golden State will draft a forward and they will unveil the 5 forward offense next season. Nobody will be able to pronounce the name of the Spur's draft pick. David Stern will be booed by every Sonics fan each time he comes out to announce a pick. A live interview with Danny Ainge will unexpectedly start early and we will all see Rachel Nichols pop up from underneath Danny's desk. DeAndre Jordan will begin to cry on Big Momma's shoulder because he his the last person in the green room and he has nobody to play with. Cleveland will make no moves as usual and count down the days until Lebron leaves to Brooklyn. Nets fans in the audience will yell out drunken comments such as "Lick My Balls Stern" and "Get Stuffed". Toronto will have a star fall into there lap and lastly, Seattle and Portland will once again wow the association with their unbelievable trades and draft selections. I can't wait!

According to Draftexpress.com , good ole Sam Presti could be looking at a draft day trade next week. Presti is reportedly trying hard to move up to #2, and is dangling Chris Wilcox as bait (in exchange for the cumbersome contract of Mark Blount). The Supersonics would take Beasley there. This is all assuming that O.J. Mayo doesn’t go third to Minnesota, which is not something teams should take for granted just yet based off what we know so far.

13 year old Nigel Williams-Goss played on a 17 an under AAU team last weekend at the Rose City Showcase in Portland, OR. Facing some of the top high school talent in the country, he averaged 10 minutes per game. Nigel, who will be going into 8th grade in September has already received letters from UCLA. Hoop Scoop Online has him ranked as the No. 2 player in the nation for the class of 2013. Nigel's father Virgil played with A.C. Allan Houston has been a recent regular for workouts at US Airways Center in Phoenix as he is considering a comeback. Houston, who retired in 2005 because of knee problems, visited Suns forward and former teammate Grant Hill in April to see what the Suns' acclaimed athletic trainers did for him and others with tough health histories. The secret is in Cryogenics.

That's right. Suns' athletic trainers have been deep freezing NBA veterans during the off season in a state of the art Cryogenic Freezer. In fact it is the same Freezer that Sylvester Stallone's character "John Spartan" used in the movie Demolition Man (1993). Allan Houston told reporters that he looked forward to being frozen, as it would give him a little time away from his nagging wife (Drummer at press conference plays a Rim Shot).
